    Abstract

Artikel ini berjudul Beneficiary in Material Processes: a Syntactic Study.

    Abstract

The degree of responsiveness of STBA students to the future of ICT implementation in the learning processes, especially for those subjects related to foreign languages, has been inadequately stated only from observation. This research is one of the efforts to provide a snapshot of the facts among STBA students in relation with the issue. While revealing the characteristics of the current active Internet users in the campus, the research has also figured out that its usage to enhance students’ learning processes is not yet to be taken into account: constituting a hole of opportunity for subjects taught in STBA to get into their Internet usage scheme. This should be carried out with optimism in the process, amid the fact that most of students’ adoption processes to computer & Internet are mostly self-learned. That is also true while realizing that the nature of complexity of computer & Internet mastery are high.

    Abstract

To some extent a test administered for public will influence all the stakeholders involved. This claim is stated by Alderson and Wall (1993) that examination influences attitude, behavior, and motivation of teachers, learners, and parents. In conjunction with them, thus, this study tries to investigate the influence of performance test in a public speaking course seen from teaching and learning processes. This study was conducted in one academy of secretary located in Bandung. This study applies a case study design and descriptive statistics to depict and analyze the data. Data were collected from 68 participants through observations, questionnaire and interview. The results of observations show that the students who were very serious and persistent in following public speaking course gain many positive effects and have fewer problems compared to those who were not serious and persistent. Parallel to observations, the results of questionnaire and interview show the same courses that is, positive and negative results. The positive results are 79.3% participants felt confident; 88.1% participants learned very hard by reading much literature; 80% participants were motivated; 85.3% participants said that performance test sharpen their memory; 69% participants said that they could accept their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses; 79.1% participants said that they were brave to voice their views; 87% participants said that the performance test helped them improve their speaking skills. On the contrary, negative results are 85.5% participants felt stress; 59.3% participants felt egotistic because they didn’t pay attention to their friends’ speech; 81% participants felt difficult to find the topic; 86.2% participants felt difficult to memorize the manuscript; 73% participants found difficulty in pronouncing words; 30% participants felt uncomfortable if seen by lecturers. The implications for teaching and learning in public speaking course are the teacher should create a comfortable atmosphere for the learners, provide the learners good models, encourage the learners to speak, and guide the learners to perform good public speaking.
